According to
the Centers for Disease Control, approximately 50% of individuals
suffering heart attacks have "normal" cholesterol levels. Could you
be at risk?

For the past fifty years
or so, medical science has learned a lot about the causes of
cardiovascular disease, including its relationship to abnormal
blood cholesterol levels. At first, physicians looked at the
levels of total cholesterol but then discovered that not all forms
of cholesterol were actually harmful to the cardiovascular system.
Over time,
physicians have recognized the importance
of distinguishing the various types of cholesterol –
LDL ("bad" cholesterol) and HDL ("good" cholesterol). In
general terms, the lower the level of LDL and the higher the
level of HDL, the better.
While measuring levels
of total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C) and
HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C)can prove helpful, knowing these
numbers alone isn't sufficient for many patients to truly
understand their cardiovascular risk. We need better information and
this is now available.
