Carotid Intima-Media (CIMT) Thickness Testing

Measuring the thickness of the inner layers of the carotid artery wall (carotid intima-media thickness, or CIMT) is one helpful way to assess the cardiovascular health of patients. CIMT measurement using structural B-mode (brightness mode) ultrasound have been performed since the mid-1980s. Using this tecnhology, a trained sonographer can easily and non-invasively acquire images of the carotid artery wall for analysis. CIMT testing helps accurately assess: 1) the presence of cardiovascular disease; 2) the risk of future major adverse cardiovascular events; and 3) the possible progression of the disease process before the patient actually presents with acute symptoms of heart attack or stroke. At The Heart Attack Prevention Institute (HAPI) of Naples, FL, a trained and experienced sonographer from CardioRisk  can complete the CIMT ultrasound procedure in just under ten minutes of the patient's time (LINK TO CARDIORISK WEBSITE).
